2021 will a great year for 5G implementations, but we are also seeing a market, that is splitting two-ways. If you have a need for very data intensive transmissions and minimum latency (like for example broadcasting, remote surgery etc.) you should go for 4G/LTE and 5G.
If you are adding a lot of new IoT devices, that is requiring low bandwidth but with stability as the most critical factor, look for one of the new IoT-networks, NB-IoT or LTE-M. For a lot of the industrial IoT solutions that will be implemented over the next years, this will be a perfect match and a futureproof choice.
Another trend is consolidation of systems. In the past a lot of independent systems were setup. Alarm systems, video surveillance and access control systems were independent systems with separate setups, installation costs and service plans. All of this is now merging into combined systems making it easy to react to alarms coming from various sensors.
Cloud based IoT-platform solutions is a key element in a successful IoT implementation and most of the platforms are now making use of a large variety of technologies leading to making administration and maintenance easy.
